Why I started C.O.R.A
(Community of Reading and Artistry)
I named C.O.R.A.:
(Community of Reading and Artistry)
after my dear mother, Coralee, who had a deep love for reading.
She was a constant source of inspiration, and her passion for books and the joy she found in reading was something that left a lasting impact on me. Naming this intergenerational book club in her honour felt like the perfect way to keep her spirit alive while sharing that same love for literature with the community…..
Coralee believed in the power of stories to bring people together, to inspire, and to create connections across generations. Through C.O.R.A., I aim to carry forward her legacy by creating a space where people of all ages can gather to read, share, and create—just as she would have loved.
I started C.O.R.A (Community of Reading and Artistry) because of my deep passion for bringing people together and building a sense of connection within the community. I’ve always believed that one of the most powerful ways to bridge generational gaps is through shared experiences, especially those centred around creativity, storytelling, and the arts.
Growing up, I witnessed how reading and artistic expression could spark conversations, foster understanding, and create lasting bonds between people of different ages and backgrounds. Whether it was discussing a book with my parents or playing a game with friends of all ages, these experiences taught me the value of community engagement. I wanted to create a space where people from all walks of life—children, adults, and seniors—could come together to not only enjoy literature but also share their personal stories, engage in creative activities, and celebrate the arts.
C.O.R.A. was born from this desire to make meaningful connections. I envisioned a place where reading would be just the start of a larger conversation, one that could lead to collaborative poetry writing, music sessions, and even playing simple board games. I wanted to offer a variety of planned activities that cater to different interests, ensuring that everyone in the community, no matter their age, could find something enjoyable and enriching.
Through C.O.R.A., my goal is to inspire a lifelong love of reading and creativity while strengthening the bonds between generations. I believe that when we come together to share stories, express ourselves through art, and engage in fun activities, we build a more inclusive, vibrant, and supportive community.

C.O.R.A Intergenerational Book Club was named after my late grandmother , Coralee, who was the heart and soul of our family. She was the matriarch, guiding us with love, wisdom, and support throughout our lives. Coralee, along with my mother, played a pivotal role in nurturing my love for reading and writing, encouraging me from a young age.
Her belief in the power of words and storytelling has deeply shaped who I am today and continues to inspire the mission of C.O.R.A….
My grandmother was a true people person, always extending her hand to help others, fostering a sense of community wherever she went. She was also deeply spiritual, often reading spiritual books and reflecting on their teachings. Reading and writing were her passions, and through these activities, she found ways to express her compassion, understanding, and love for others.
Naming the book club after Coralee is our way of honouring her legacy. C.O.R.A stands for more than just a book club—it represents the values that my grandmother embodied: love, community, compassion, and support. Through C.O.R.A, I hope to create a space that reflects her spirit, bringing people together to share, learn, and grow through literature, creativity, and connection. The book club is a tribute to her life and the lasting impact she had on everyone who knew her, a symbol of the kindness and community she cultivated.
